A motion detection program allows a camera connected to a computing device to detect objects or persons moving in the frame. Because a typical program can capture images of the moving object, this technology finds widespread use in commercially sold security camera systems.

Here’s a free and open source program that will implement a motion detection system on a desktop computer connected to a webcam or provided with a built-in webcam.
